Tuesday, 12 March 2019

Martin Brodey, DORDA Partner and Head of the Corporate M&A Practice Group advised ODEON Cinemas Group, the largest European cinema operator, on the sale of the three Austrian UCI cinemas. Constantin Film-Holding acted as buyer of UCI Kinowelt. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The Odeon Cinemas Group, a subsidiary of US AMC Entertainment Holding, operates over 360 cinemas with approximately 2900 screens in Europe, including Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Portugal. With more than 1,000 cinemas and over 11,000 screens, AMC Entertainment Holding is the largest movie exhibition company in the world. The chain employs around 39,000 people.

"The highly attractive cinema locations are an essential asset in the Austrian cinema landscape. The parties involved are top players in the market and were able to reach an immediate common understanding and agreement. We are very happy to have been part of the successful completion of the transaction," says Martin Brodey.

ODEON Group Chief Legal & Compliance Officer Chris Thomas adds: "The DORDA team was supportive during the process, and we were very happy with their pragmatic, commercially aware, supportive approach."

The seller ODEON was legally supported by Martin Brodey, who was in charge of the transaction. He was supported by Florian Mayer (Associate, Corporate, M&A) from his team.
