Christian Dorda joins External Review Commission of the International Biathlon Union

Wednesday, 23 January 2019

Christian Dorda, founding partner and renowned arbitration and corporate law expert of DORDA Attorneys at law, has been appointed as a member of an External Review Commission by the International Biathlon Union (IBU).

The External Review Commission is to investigate allegations of corruption and doping against the IBU in detail. In recent weeks, there was extensive media coverage on dubious money flows and lost doping samples of Russian biathlon athletes.

Christian Dorda is one of the three attorneys who the newly elected Swedish IBU President Olle Dahlin brought before the Review Commission. Dorda was appointed for his expertise and extensive experience in international disputes and will now bring his knowledge to bear in matters of club law and sports regulation.

Other members of the Commission are the English attorney Jonathan Taylor QC of Bird & Bird (London), German attorney and sports expert Anja Martin as well as a former biathlete. The legal experts were given all the necessary powers and authority.

At the same time, the Commission should review the rules of the IBU in the interests of a stricter standard of integrity and transparency. For Christian Dorda, this task is "a great challenge and at the same time an opportunity to clear the popular sport from the doping accusations and to raise the achievements of honest athletes back to honours".

Christian Dorda is emeritus member of the International Court of Arbitration, co-founder and in-house counsel of the French-Austrian Chamber of Commerce and since 2009 vice president of ICC Austria (International Chamber of Commerce). He is also a long-standing member of the Board of Trustees of the American Chamber of Commerce Austria and former Chairman of the M&A Commission (Mergers & Acquisitions) of the Union Internationale des Avocats.
