Dr Christian Dorda founded the law firm DORDA (formerly Dorda Brugger Jordis), which is today a large and leading successful law firm in Austria. He is known as a seasoned M&A and corporate lawyer who now combines this background with international commercial arbitration. Christian has broad experience in cross-border transactions with a focus on continental Europe.
His current practice focuses on arbitration, in particular disputes relating to joint ventures and other forms of syndicate and corporate matters. He is regularly sought out as chairman, sole arbitrator, party-appointed arbitrator and counsel in both international and domestic commercial disputes. He has acted as arbitrator in approximately 40 cases, most of them as the chairman of the panel and several times as a sole arbitrator; almost always in the English language.
Having served as a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (2006-2009), Christian Dorda is now Vice-Chairman of ICC Austria. He is a delegate to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, Paris, and serves on its Task Forces. Christian Dorda is also a member of the Austrian Arbitration Association and the Swiss Arbitration Association. He is active on the Board of Trustees of the American Chamber of Commerce in Austria and is the permanent legal counsel to the French-Austrian Chamber of Commerce. He is also past chairman of the M&A commission of the Union Internationale des Avocats. He speaks fluent German, English and French.
Christian authored the Austrian Chapter in "The Dispute Resolution Review" (Third Edition) Law Business Research Ltd (2011) and "Praxishandbuch Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit" (2007), Nomos Verlag, and he regularly publishes in the field of international arbitration and corporate law. He also co-authored the books "Gedächtnisschrift für Michael Gruson" (2009), "Handbuch Mergers & Acquisitions" (2007), "Directors' Liability: A Worldwide Review" (2nd edition 2010), "Europäisches Steuerrecht" (Festschrift Friedrich Rödler; 2010) and "Res judicata und Schiedsverfahren" in FS H Torggler (Verlag Österreich). He regularly covers arbitral jurisprudence from a "Vienna Perspective" in Mealey's International Arbitration Report. Christian lobbied successfully, together with other practitioners and academics, for the 2014 Amendment of the Austrian Arbitration Act.
